I think hypocrisy is evident only in societies that believe in giving default respect to a lot of people. (For eg respect your elders even when you see them believe stupid stuff on WhatsApp groups. )
Our only way to deal with default respect or lack of frankness is hypocrisy. Same way we have to use sarcasm to shame a leader who we can’t loudly say to be incompetent.
