I feel this market dynamic is something that’s newer and was not so prevalent in past.
Primary reason could be significantly higher access in terms of potential mates in hyper connected digital world which previous generation didn’t have. A lot of people from past ( pre internet and pre cell phones) didn’t have clean access to stay in touch with all mates.
A poor analogy can be: In a world where renting an apartment has become cheaper and easier, Why would people buy apartments, Unless apartments were scarce, Not available for rent or had a chance of never being available in market.
